What is the greatest fear of most people? Death. What if I told you that you no longer have to fear death? Does it sound to good to be true? What else do I have to sell you maybe some desert land and call it ocean front. I tell you truly that you do not have to fear death or anything else. Jesus through death destroyed him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. Jesus delivered them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. The Bible tells us, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”. The Bible continues, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”
In our society you can enter a family by birth, marriage, or adoption. Adoption today requires a court to approve a petition requesting a child not born of the family to become a member of the family. Once a court approves the adoption the child is a legal member of the new family with all the rights extended by the law, such as inheritance. When we accept Jesus, we have been adopted, born again, into God’s family with all the rights therein. One of the rights is to call God, Abba, Father. How does this relate to death? Now that we are sons and daughters of the most High, when we leave this earth, we are headed for heaven to spend eternity with our Father and elder brother, Jesus.
Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, were friends of Jesus and supported His ministry. Lazarus became ill and his sisters sent word to Jesus. Jesus did not come right away and Lazarus died. When Jesus arrived, Martha made the comment that if only Jesus arrived earlier, He could have healed Lazarus. Jesus let Martha know, “You don’t have to wait for the End. I am, right now, Resurrection and Life. The one who believes in me, even though he or she dies, will live. And everyone who lives believing in me does not ultimately die at all. Do you believe this?”
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
There is a real earth and a real heaven. When we die, our spirits will be Jesus. Paul mentioned that to be absent from the body is to be with Christ. Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would join Jesus that day in Paradise. Our bodies will be in the ground until that great day when Jesus will return again and those of us in Christ will meet Him in the air.
So, there is nothing to fear because Jesus defeated our greatest enemy, Death. The only question is, do you know Jesus as Lord and Savior? If you do not, then the book of Romans explains that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, then you will be saved.
