Imagine the greatest being in the universe is also your father. Jesus when asked to teach His disciples to pray began by saying Our Father. Jesus is saying that not only is God His father, but God is also our Father. What an amazing Father we share.
Our Father did not create us as robots following His every command, rather He created us and gave us free will. We have the choice to accept Him as Father. We have the choice to follow His commands or to reject them. We have the choice to reject His Son.
Our Father allows us to make mistakes. We often times are sincere in our belief that something is the right decision, but we can be sincerely wrong. We are given grace to find our way. Jesus made a statement that He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We are on a journey to find His way, and we know that God directs our steps. We at times are like the prodigal son who asks his father for his inheritance and leaves home looking for what the world has to offer. After spending all his money on worldly distractions, the prodigal finds himself in a pig pen feeding the pigs. A Jewish boy should not be mixing with swine. The prodigal comes to his senses and decides that his father’s servants eat better. The prodigal heads home ready to repent and become one of his father’s servants. The father, who has been looking for his son’s return, sees his son coming down the road and runs to meet him. The son begins his planned statement of repentance and the father wants nothing to do with it. The father only sees his son, who was lost, has returned.
Our father is that father. When we go a stray, He is there looking for us to return to Him. Oh how heaven rejoices when we choose the Father. The Father’s heart is that we want to spend time with Him. We sometimes look to the Father’s hands to see what He can provide, however, we need to look at His face, to see the love radiating out of his eyes for us. Our Father loves us with an everlasting love. His love is not based on our behavior but His love is based on His goodness.
If you have tried the distractions of this world and found them lacking, then come home. Your Father is looking for you and will run to meet you. Do not let fear or pride stop you. If your children have gone astray, then pray the Father will keep them and eventually bring them home.
