Why do we think that a moment spent on our knees will carry us great lengths of time? We have a great prayer session and somehow we believe that is enough. Our Father made us to need constant connection with Him. The Bible admonishes us to “pray without ceasing”. Jesus said, “I am the Vine and you are the Branches”. In the natural a branch cannot survive very long without the vine because the vine provides the nourishment necessary for life. We, the branches, need to be connected with the Vine, Jesus, for the same reason to receive nourishment that allows us to live and bear fruit.
When the Bible tells us to seek God with all our heart, it is not to benefit God, but rather, it is to benefit us. Only the lonely was a popular song years ago and it describes life without others. We were made for communion with our Father and with man. The cross represents that relationship. The vertical beam represents our relationship with God and the horizontal beam represents our relationship with man particularly fellow believers. We worship God by taking time to spend to “be still and know Him”. The time spent in those moments refreshes us, strengthens us, restores us, rekindles our fire and passion. Jesus spent hours in prayer with His Father. How do you think He lived His life on this planet.
“Come on to me all ye that are weary” Jesus calls us. We live in a world where weary is the normal. The normal expectations of life are enough to drive us to our knees and that is the place of power. Remember God’s Kingdom is much different from man’s kingdom. In the Kingdom of God, the greatest among you is the greatest servant. In man’s kingdom ruling over lesser beings is lauded. In the Kingdom of God, humility is of great importance. In man’s kingdom, arrogance is seen as confidence. In God’s kingdom, love is the greatest attribute. In man’s kingdom, power and wealth are the greatest attributes.
Spend more time in quiet contemplation with the Father and I believe your life will not only reflect this experience as Moses face did when he spent time on the mountain with God, but the overflow will impact other people in your life. Get some knee time in.
